Not to be outdone by the upcoming Pride Prejudice and Zombies movie (based on the hit book Pride and Prejudice and Zombies ), it has been confirmed that Emily Bronte’s classic book Wuthering Heights will be getting a new film adaptation, directed by Andrea Arnold.
Whether the new film adaptation of Wuthering Heights is merely an attempt to jump on the trend of classic books becoming hip again (or the fact that it’s Edward and Bella’s favorite book), is left to individual speculation. But the most recent film version of Pride and Prejudice (starring Keira Knightly) went alright, so here’s hoping that Arnold does Bronte’s work justice.
While no trailer has been released for the new Wuthering Heights film yet, you can see the trailer for the 1992 film version of Wuthering Heights (starring Ralph Fiennes) above.
While we haven’t read any of the Percy Jackson & the Olympians books, the Lightening Thief movie looks incredible. It touches on Greek Mythology (one of our personal favorites) so we’re excited to see how they pull it off.
Variety reports that Natalie Portman will star in and produce a film version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, based on the bestselling book by Seth Grahame-Smith and Jane Austen.
Described as an expanded version of the Austen classic, the book tells the timeless story of a woman’s quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers.
So, there you have it. While much of the movie will follow the basic plot of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, it will add the feisty undead to the mix.
However, one question remains: Will the public already be too burned out on the addition of zombies and other monsters to classic literature to be excited about this movie by the time it comes out?
While many Roald Dahl books have already made their way to film (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and Matilda just to name a few), people seem particularly excited about the latest Dahl book adaptation, The Fantastic Mr. Fox.
You can see the movie trailer above, and can read a short synopsis of the book (via Amazon) below.
In the tradition of The Adventures of Peter Rabbit, this is a “garden tale” of farmer versus vermin, or vice versa. The farmers in this case are a vaguely criminal team of three stooges: “Boggis and Bunce and Bean / One fat, one short, one lean. / These horrible crooks / So different in looks / Were nonetheless equally mean.” Whatever their prowess as poultry farmers, within these pages their sole objective is the extermination of our hero–the noble, the clever, the Fantastic Mr. Fox. Our loyalties are defined from the start; after all, how could you cheer for a man named Bunce who eats his doughnuts stuffed with mashed goose livers? As one might expect, the farmers in this story come out smelling like … well, what farmers occasionally do smell like.
This early Roald Dahl adventure is great for reading aloud to three- to seven-year-olds, who will be delighted to hear that Mr. Fox keeps his family one step ahead of the obsessed farmers. When they try to dig him out, he digs faster; when they lay siege to his den, he tunnels to where the farmers least expect him–their own larders! In the end, Mr. Fox not only survives, but also helps the whole community of burrowing creatures live happily ever after. With his usual flourish, Dahl evokes a magical animal world that, as children, we always knew existed, had we only known where or how to look for it.
